I have played through chapter 6.
New Thoughts
We meet a new character who ends up being our bearer of Micaiah’s Emblem ring, the Emblem of Dawn. Yunaka is supposed to be our thief/assassin character whose eyes can cut through the darkness. Most of the classes have been renamed and recategorized, so I can’t remember off the top of my head what her class is called in this game for now. While I am a fan of bubbly characters, there are too many. Just one edgy character is all I ask for. Even the villains are more comical than intimidating. They don’t even have to be edgy, just serious. Yunaka switches from her “Hiya papaya” personality, she does have a more serious, hardened killer personality.
My favorite thing about this game is the characters Clanne and Framme. They can be a bit much since every other word out of their mouths is “Divine Dragon,” but they’re so bubbly and adorable I can’t hate them. I included one of their conversations, and they’re just too adorable. I like Clanne’s “yeah!”
A feature I find severely lacking is that unlike in Three Houses, we cannot dismount our units. While this does add a very light layer of challenge when selecting your roster, I feel that a soldier (or what have you) will know to dismount from their horse or pegasus when it’ll prove advantageous, but oh well.
I will (half) take back a previous criticism that we couldn’t move our map around. In order to be able to do rotate your map around so it can face another way, you have to get rid of the mini map. Even then you could maybe rotate once or twice as opposed to all around like in Three Houses.
A positive feature this game introduces is that weapons, save for staffs, do not break after a certain number of uses. I never really had a problem with breaking my weapons, so this isn’t something major for me. We can still upgrade our weapons like in previous games, but now we don’t “repair” them back to max usage. I’m still salty about having to use tomes and staffs though.
Current Rating
My previous rating reduced the game down to 9 out of a possible 10 points. Each post I’ll update the rating and give my reasoning behind my changes. The changes can be both positive and negative.
- I am going to subtract .2 points because we can’t dismount our units anymore.
Current rating: 8.8 out of 10.
Conclusion
The chapters are hit or miss with me. They’re either completely off putting or fun. No in-between. The same with the characters. Characters are either full of personality, or dull. However, I do want to say that I am enjoying this new cast of Fire Emblem characters. They just feel empty, in a sense. This game feels very black and white in terms of how characters are personified. You can find my previous post here.
