Daily writing prompt
If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another edition of our Wednesday Writing Prompt series. Today’s prompt is all about daydreaming and wanderlust – what would you do if you won two free plane tickets? It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in your travel fantasies and imagine where your next adventure might take you. As I ponder over this prompt, I can’t help but reminisce about my recent study abroad experience in Salzburg, Austria. Although it was an incredible journey, there were some unique challenges, like the sweltering summer without AC, that have made me reassess my future travel plans. Let’s dive in!

My Study Abroad in Salzburg

As you might already know, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Salzburg, Austria, for a month. The picturesque landscapes, rich history, and cultural immersion made it a memorable and transformative experience. However, one thing I didn’t anticipate was the lack of air conditioning in the dorms during the hot summer days. As an American used to well-ventilated spaces, the heat was a bit of a challenge, but it taught me to adapt and embrace the authentic local lifestyle. You can read more on my study abroad trip here.

An Unfulfilled Dream: Italy Awaits a Worthy Visit

Amidst the excitement of pondering my next travel destination with two free plane tickets, I can’t help but mention another place that has always held a special place in my heart: Italy. The allure of its rich history, breathtaking architecture, and mouthwatering cuisine has made it a dream destination for me. Although I had the opportunity to visit during a three-day weekend, I decided to postpone my Italian adventure. I realized that a country as captivating as Italy deserves more than a rushed, short stay. When the time comes, I want to immerse myself in its beauty and culture, taking in every enchanting moment that this vibrant country has to offer. However, I may just not take the plunge and visit Italy and keep it as beautiful as I want to pretend it is, rather than be disappointed.

Dreaming of Japan

While my time in Austria was undoubtedly rewarding, my heart has also yearned for Japan. The vibrant cities, beautiful landscapes, and unique culture have captured my imagination for years. With two free plane tickets in hand, Japan would be my ultimate destination. I dream of strolling through Kyoto’s ancient temples, witnessing the futuristic cityscape of Tokyo, and savoring the delicious street food. Hopefully, in the near future, I’ll be able to fulfill this dream and immerse myself in the land of the rising sun. Maybe I’ll even visit the location where my favorite game, Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal, took place?

A Humbling Experience

Despite my love for Europe and dreams of traveling the continent extensively, my time in Austria has been a humbling experience. It made me realize that even though traveling is a wonderful adventure, it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s essential to adapt to different environments and embrace the challenges that come along the way. Living abroad taught me the value of flexibility and resilience, and I am grateful for the personal growth this journey has offered. However, I may have to reevaluate all future travel plans.

As I contemplate where I would go with two free plane tickets, my heart is torn between visiting my dream place: Italy and embarking on a new adventure in Japan. My study abroad experience has enriched my life in unexpected ways, and although the lack of AC in the Austrian summer was a challenge, it taught me valuable life lessons. As my time in Austria comes to an end, I’m left with a sense of gratitude and newfound humility towards traveling. Wherever the future takes me, I’ll carry the memories of Salzburg with me, and I’ll keep my wanderlust alive, eagerly anticipating my next travel chapter.
